Moving Forward
From the release date of the Technical Bulletin (January 2nd
2019) all DBI-SALA & Protecta Type 2 and Type 3 devices:
• New sales – all cable and web items the service period
will be 5 years.
• All cable items that have been returned for servicing
(after the date of release of the Technical Bulletin) the
service period will be 5 years.
• All web items that have been returned for servicing (after
the date of release of the Technical Bulletin) and the web
has been replaced the service period will be 5 years.
• All web items that have been returned for servicing (after
the date of release of the Technical Bulletin) and the web
has not been replaced the service period will be 1 year.

Serviceable Devices Inspection
• Inspection by the user before and after use as per the
specific User Instruction Manual.
• Inspection by a height safety equipment inspector every
6 months as per the specific User Instruction Manual.
Service
3M Fall Protection requires a product to be serviced by an
authorised service agent if:
• The product has failed an inspection.
• The product is damaged.
• The product has been involved in a fall event.
• The product reaches 5 years since the previous service

Non-Serviceable Devices Inspection
• Inspection by the user before and after use as per the
specific User Instruction Manual.
• Inspection by a height safety equipment inspector every 6
months as per the specific User Instruction Manual.
• Provided the product passes inspection it may remain in
service for a maximum of 5 years.
• If the product reaches 5 years of service it must be then
be removed from service and destroyed.
Serviceable and Non-Serviceable Device
• Service and Inspection periods (intervals) should be
reduced where a product is exposed to environmental
hazards. Hazards may include, but are not limited to; heat,
chemicals, corrosive environments, high voltage power
lines, gases, moving machinery, and sharp edges.

3M Fall Protection in the US as the manufacturer of
DBI-SALA and Protecta self retracting lifelines state that’s
the recommended service period is 5 yearly.
• Most competitors in ANZ have extended their service
requirements.
• Applies to all DBI-SALA and Protecta Type 2 and Type 3
Self Retracting Lifelines, serviceable and non-serviceable.
• Does not apply to Salalift II Winches or Advanced Digital
Winches.
